[solved] Any plans when void supports IWD?

#1

Just saw this https://iwd.wiki.kernel.org/ and was asking myself if voidlinux plans to package it and if so when ? Seems like arch does already have it in its repo (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Iwd).

It’s just a question … Nothing to rush

EDIT:
And here is a discussion on reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/archlinux/comments/8j6mxp/the_wpasupplicant_replacement_is_here_o/ (archlinux)

when someone packages it and makes a PR.

is this the replacement of wpa_supplicant like python3 replaced python2 ?

#3

Just compiled it by myself and looks nice so far… Will try to make a package.

I don’t know so far. What does this mean ?

(maxice8 alter) #4

already working on it

that it will debacle in replacing wpa_supplicant the same way python3 did the best fuck up of all time when it was announced to replace python2

#5

Even better ! Could you post the template file if you were successful ?

I see  The time will show it.

(maxice8 alter) #6

i’ll make a PR

(maxice8 alter) #7

time is on my side quite literally

#8

Love you dude  Thanks !

Why this?

(maxice8 alter) #9

the longer it takes the more it looks like the python3 debacle

#10

Okay … I will gladly teach me

#11

@north1 So you wouldn’t suggest to use it ?

(maxice8 alter) #12

wouldn’t suggest to use what ?

#13

IWD. If it is like python3 …

#14

May I get some details, please? All I know is that it has some incompatibilities and pretty much coexists with Python 2 instead of truly replacing it.

By the time I started learning it, almost everyone recommended to go with Python 3.

#15

Any progress ?

(maxice8 alter) #16

packaged, just need to create a runit service file and make iwctl actually work. dbus is annoying

#17

Nice one ! Big thanks again for your quick work.

(maxice8 alter) #18

somehow only got it to work when running as a service, not when running as root on a console. oh welll, it works so whatever.

#19

Enough for now. Will test it asap.

(maxice8 alter) #20

please test if it depends on a system dbus instance running, i’d like to know so i can put on the run script.
