Local Install: Several video issues

#21

Ah well, you are using the one which is in Hz - vertical, horizontal got usually higher freqs in kHz, you can have monitor which support 75 HZ if you sure then use 75 if not then 60 HZ.

./cvt 1440 900 60

Well, looks like this so far https://gist.github.com/anonymous/f7d5a8d68e0694f21079a0b13e3e59cc All the resolutions were picked from the service manual I have.

#23

Dont need to put all resolutions but only these which gonna use and in SubSection “Display” the first resolution in Modes should be the preferred one.

(Bruno de Souza Lino) #24

I’m putting all resolutions because I had the pc soft locking before by apps that change the screen resolution.

I tested the xorg.conf file method and…bootloop. Xorg never enters graphical mode, just spits

[drm:radeon_vga_detect [radeon]] *ERROR* VGA-1: probed a monitor but no|invalid EDID

This also appears if I check the kernel messages with dmesg:

[ 24.278018] radeon 0000:02:00.0: VGA-1: EDID is invalid:

Now you need to play with some EDID ignore options in Section “Monitor”

@nixit already posted the link to gentoo forum with nice config example.

(Erin) #27

@nixit’s post (17 above) suggests how to switch EDID off or get it ignored and possibly check for new monitor firmware to fix the dodgy EDID.

(Bruno de Souza Lino) #28

I’m starting to think that the radeon kernel mode ignores the xorg configuration file. Other than the bootloop, no other configuration works and it spits the same error regarding edid.

#29

Study the difference between Kernel Mode Setting and User Mode Setting.

(Bruno de Souza Lino) #30

The docs make no sense to a person who has zero knowledge of these two.
