Just create a directory called ‘themes’ in /boot/grub/ path if it does not already exist.
Untar void.tar.xz in /boot/grub/themes/
tar -xvJf void.tar.xz -C /boot/grub/themes/
Edit /boot/grub/themes/void/theme.txt according to your preferences.
Add/Edit this line in /etc/default/grub
Note: If you have umask set different to the default values, is probably a good idea verify the 755 permissions for 'themes/void' directories and 644 for all the contents inside the void directory.
The original theme is from KDE neon, I just edit it to use it with Void
